Englefield Road

A unique property with a small footprint, a difficult configuration and strict planning restrictions. The clients wanted more space, a home that opened onto its garden, and a garden worth stepping out into.

Working with District Architects, the plan was a two-floor rear addition, followed by a full garden refurbishment and a new outbuilding. At the time it was our largest project to date. Fitting all of that onto a tight plot, within the planning rules, left very little room for error, and there were some tricky obstacles along the way.

We built the two-storey rear extension and fitted out the interiors, including a kitchen with brass finishes, contrasting units and a sleek tile design. Outside, we built the garden building, then took on the full garden landscaping. When problems came up, we worked through them with the clients rather than around them. After completion, we were happy to come back and resolve any issues, so the build stayed at the standard it was finished to.

A one-of-a-kind home with exquisite lines, and a garden that creates a sense of whimsy as you enter through the sunken lounge. It only gets better when the sun goes down and the garden lights go up. In the clients' own words, the result is "a joy to live with".
